Shenton’s farm has been in the family for over 400 years! Previously working with beef and sheep but now they moved more towards poultry, arable and biomass and around 350 sheep with the poultry being the main earner. 

The 7s was purchased to run alongside the 7720 lugging 800 tonnes of timber, lugging muck, spraying, drilling and ploughing. Shenton also has a MF 7614 however needed more horsepower to run alongside the 7720. 

I asked Shenton how the 7s has improved compared to previous Massey Ferguson’s he has owned and he said the answer is simple; it’s the technology. The RKT is spot on even on the hills they’re situated on pulling a 3m drill. 

“I found the RKT and guidance a little confusing at first but it’s one of the best features on the tractor. Dave Chell from Massey Ferguson came out with David Smith from Pugh’s to set the tractor up and go through the technology side with my son Ryan who used the tractor the most before going to New Zealand. We also exchanged some phone calls afterwards and everyone was happy to talk us through things.”

Amongst the 3 Massey’s Shenton currently owns from Pugh’s 2 of them are Dyna VT which Shenton explains he will always be sticking with. 

“The Dyna VT tractors are something we will always stick with, they are so much smoother and easier as well as better on fuel consumption due to the gearbox. We had never had a Dyna VT tractor until Robert told us we are having one! Once we did, we never looked back.”

Another feature on the 7s is the auto boom which Shenton hooked the sprayer up to and explained the hydraulics were super smooth and responsive. 

As a self-confessed Massey fan Shenton’s family have been customers of Pugh’s since the very beginning alongside Robert and David. 

“We’ve always had good back up with Pugh’s and replacement tractors if needed.”
