On 6th September 1983, Brereton Play group and Pre-School proudly opened its doors to the children of Brereton and surrounding towns and villages for the first time and for over 30 years they have remained a fundamental and integral part of the community and the foundation for children aged 2 through to school age.
In order to raise funds for a much-needed new building, Brereton Play group launched a crowd funding campaign. They want to replace the existing building with something that will last another 30 years, whilst at the same time taking the opportunity to expand the facilities to provide for more children in the pre-school and to offer the extended opening hours that the preschool so desperately needs.
“Funding for Preschools is virtually non-existent. We have spent many hours applying for grants only to be told that we don’t meet the necessary criteria. The few grant providers that we have found that fund preschools will not consider our application until we have raised a significant amount ourselves. As we operate as a charity we are continually fundraising to buy new equipment for the children and of course pay the increasing maintenance fees. Knowing that a new building is needed we have managed to save just over £20,000, however a replacement modular building will cost between £35,000 and £80,000 depending on its size and facilities, which is why help from the community is so important”.
So far the playgroup have had some generous contributions including:
The Lottery Awards for All Programme have pledged £10,000
The Garfield Weston Foundation have pledged £7500
The Thomas Cook Children Charity have pledged £5000
In order to help the Playgroup meet their target, RVW Pugh Ltd has devised a structure whereby every piece of machinery sold from their Holmes Chapel Depot throughout 2017 (whether that be a brand new tractor or a bale spike), contributes to the pot for this effort.
This scheme was started on the 1st May 2017 after representatives from the Playgroup sent out a letter expressing their need for support from their local community. With RVW Pugh Ltd having a depot based in Holmes Chapel it was immediately decided to show support for a cause that the Pugh family really felt was worthwhile. “A project such as this is not just supporting the local community close to our Holmes Chapel depot, it’s about safeguarding a future for the children by giving them facilities that allow them to learn and progress.” – Robert Pugh, Business Owner.
We are now happy to say that we have raised a total of £6,077.50 for their new building. We will be presenting a cheque to them on the 8th February at the Playgroup accompanied by a tractor.
